This is Anton. He is going to have a magnetic resonance camera scan also called Magnetic Resonance Tomography (MRT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The short word for it is MRI camera. Anton takes a queue ticket in the reception. It is his turn soon.
Karin who is a radiology nurse receives Anton and his mother. She introduces herself and tells Anton that the first thing he has to do is to get changed.
Anton has to put on ha hospital gown in a dressing room. Here there are some lockers where Anton and his mother can leave their valuables and metal objects, for example jewellery and keys. Anton and his mother get to answer a few questions before the examination can begin.
Now it is time to go into the room. You are not allowed to bring anything with metal into this room.
Karin explains how the MRI camera works and shows the cap and the ear plugs that Anton will wear during the examination. When the MRI camera takes pictures it is very noisy. Therefore Anton will be given both ear plugs and hearing protectors. The hearing protectors also work as headphones. Anton can choose to listen to music or to an audio book during the examination.
It is very important to lie completely still in order for the pictures to turn out good. In his hand Anton holds an alarm button that he can push if he wants to say something to the staff during the examination. Anton can hear the staff through his headphones. Through a mirror that is placed right above Anton he can see the room.
Now Anton is lying comfortably in the MRI camera. In order to get the best possible pictures you go in a bit and there you lie still until the examination is done. Antons mother Lotta can sit next to him all the time. The examination takes a little over one hour.
Listen to how the MRI camera sounds:
Karin sits in the room next door and sees the MRI camera and Anton the whole time. The camera takes several pictures and each picture takes 3-6 minutes. Between every picture Karin talks to Anton through the headphones.
Now the examination is finished and Anton gets a gift.
